Crowd gathers for Alaska Native languages workshop
SB130 would establish the Alaska Native Language Preservation and Advisory Council, which would evaluate the state's 20 indigenous languages and make recommendations for preservation, restoration and revitalization. Olson said that while educators have made great efforts, indigenous people throughout Alaska feel first languages continue to become extinct. One example of this, he said, is when the last speaker of Eyak, died in 2008.

Language: The Cultural Tool by Daniel Everett – review
Language: The Cultural Tool by Daniel Everett – review.
Native speakers of Pirahã, in the Amazon lowland jungle, have no words for left or right, they use the same term for blue and green, and their definitions of red, black and white turn out to be similes, rather than dedicated words.

Canadas indianere
Mens der er fem sprogfamilier i Europa, er der ca. 50 i Nordamerika, og ikke færre end 11 af dem i Canada. Flere af de indianske sprogfamilier er temmelig store. Alle sprogfamilier der findes i Canada, er i øvrigt også repræsenteret i USA. Grænsen deler ikke kun sprogfamilier, men der er også sprog der tales på begge sider af grænsen; der er endda et Mohawk-reservat, Kahnawake, der er fordelt over to canadiske provinser og en USA-stat.

Everett, Pirahã and Recursion: The Latest
Discussing the concept of recursion is like a rite of passage for anyone interested in language evolution: there are two definitions of recursion: (1) embeddedness of phrases within other phrases, which entails keeping track of long-distance dependencies among phrases; (2) the specification of the computed output string itself, including meta-recursion, where recursion is both the recipe for an utterance and the overarching process that creates and executes the recipe. There is a debate surrounding a small Amazonian tribe called the Pirahã.

Indigenous Focus: Indigenous Languages Being Strengthened Throughout Chile
In Chile, there are nine recognized Indigenous peoples throughout the country. Historically, these nine peoples spoke eight different languages (both the Quechua people and the Colla people spoke variants of Quechua). Today, two of those languages—Kunza, traditionally spoken by the Atacameño people, and the previously-mentioned Kakan—are considered extinct. Despite this classification, there have been efforts in recent months and years to document what remains of those languages in an attempt to revitalize them.
